How to restock a fruit bowl like a man
If there is one thing we go through a lot of in this house, it’s fruit (well, cheese and bread, too). We go through 80–100 pounds of fruit a month. As a result, we have a constant influx of new fruit in our fruit bowl.
One of my pet peeves is finding old fruit at the bottom of the fruit bowl, so I am here to show you how to restock a fruit bowl the man’s way.

Here’s what our fruit bowl looks like 2–3 days after our last purchase.
I am going to add two new bags of oranges to the bowl.
Take out all the fruit.
Stare at the gunk at the bottom of the bowl. That’s chipped stems and ends from apples, oranges, grapefruit, bananas, and so on.
It’s gross. Stick it in the sink and fill it up with enough water to rinse it thoroughly. To be just like me, try using a sink that’s too small or a bowl that’s too big. Or both.
Wash it with a rag.
Dry it with a towel.
Empty the new fruit into the newly-cleaned bowl.
Add the old fruit next, making sure easily-bruised fruit (e.g. apple and bananas) go on the very top.
