First you need a dirty chesterfield.

Sure, it doesn’t seem dirty, but let’s see after we remove the cushions, the first step.

Hmmm. It looks dirtier, but not as much as a chesterfield used by six people and a cat should be. Let’s try a closeup.

Remove things from the cracks.

If you’re lucky like me, you should hit the jackpot.

Put this stuff away and/or throw it away.

Once that is all cleaned up, it’s time to pull our the heavy artillery. The vacuum. A year as a carpet and upholstery cleaner taught me to use this attachment for cleaning furniture.

Vacuum the fabric where the cushions sit. Don’t press too firmly; let the vacuum do the work.

Be sure to vacuum the back, front and sides.

Once the chesterfield itself is clean, clean all cushions and pillows.

Return all cushions and pillows to their original place. This would be a good time to flip cushions over, so they last longer.

Done.
